Northern Alligator Lizard?

My mom found a wounded NAL a few weeks ago, and he's been doing okay so far. Mean, but okay. Until the grhoppers went away I tried to feed him those, and now we've been giving him meal worms. It's just his tail that's been cut off so I knwo he'll be fine. I was hoping to keep him until he was fully healed and then release him, or if possible have him be my new friend 'till he dies of old age. The only problem? I can't fine ANYTHING about how to take care of one and I really don't want him to go because of something I did wrong :(
