Why did god send his son to die?

He sent his son (as himself) to appease his own anger as a sacrifice, knowing full well that he could resurrect himself and send himself back to heaven to be with himself. What about that doesn't make sense,LOL. It's quite the sacrifice also, not one of those lame sacrifices by humans where someone throws their self in front of a bus to save a little girl, knowing they are losing their one and only life forever.
